About
I am an interaction designer and researcher interested in making investigating systems, services, and products that can affect people, societies, and cultures in profound ways. As such, I am invested in design that positively impacts the human condition in terms of (i) empowering personal growth, enjoyment and meaning (ii) as well as facilitating systemic change capable of crafting viable human and environmental futures. I’m interested in designing for complex environments that are in constant states of change, such as the home and urban settings. My background spans anthropology, informatics, and interaction design. I recently completed an internship at Microsoft Research Cambridge in the Socio-Digital Systems group. Before that I was a Fulbright Scholar in the design department at the Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, Australia. I’m currently a PhD student in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. I also studied interaction design at Indiana University.

I am concerned with creating both (i) practical designs for the real world (ii) as well as a body of work that expands our understanding of design (i.e. what design is, what it does, and what it can do). However design is construed–a process, “outcome” or thing with agency–it is elemental to our being; implicated in all cultural, political and social constructions. On this blog I’ll be logging my evolving reflections and ideas on design as I iterate through problems and continue to develop my own philosophy.
I’m also an avid music producer and espresso consumer and such topics will most likely creep on here too..
